Caroline Beasley-Baker wrote "A voice in a dream once said to me, there are 3 questions: Who are you? Where are you? and Why are you? The dream also gave me an answer, but that is not the point here. The point is in the asking of the questions."

Together we are going to create a Wall Mural Installation that will be a kind of group portrait. To begin with, we need a "portrait" of each of you... Assignments 1 through 4 will give you the information you need to create/find what you will bring with you to the Master Class that will be held at each of the 4 CSU campuses. Once we have your "portraits" complete, each of you will come to Central to install your part of the project.

This will mean a total of 4 to 5 days of WORK & GREAT FUN!

February 21, 2002:  16 WestConn students joined the 2001-2002 CSU Artist in Residence master class with Caroline Beasley-Baker and her assistant/technical director Rebecca Boyden.

Terry Wells, as facilitator and coordinator of the project, talks with the class in preparation for the full day portion of the project.
Caroline oversees the students as they work individually.

The students had four assignments to work on to create "self portrait objects and images" The students brought the assignments to the Master Class to work with Caroline in a collaborative effort to introduce the students to a way of working which includes myth and poetry as well as a kind of ritualistic and improvisational system of composition
Tina Horan '03 (left) explained that each student had to come up with two representational objects from her past, present and future.  The assignments were found on a website by Caroline Beasley-Baker.  She explained that she had to figure out a way to paint the objects with a black background and bright colors to mount on the wall as if they were 3D.  She said, "it was neat to hear the other stories behind the objects."
The final pieces will be put on the collaborative wall at CCSU in New Britain.
