Marie '01 held a workshop Friday, January 14 -- from 9:30-12:00 PM
at YogaSpace. She said,
"This month, we awaken the artist within and discover how creativity can
increase our happiness and sense of well-being in our daily lives."
777 Federal Road, Brookfield; 203-775-6220
Visionary Artist Aline Marie taught her class
how to incorporate the healing powers of color to change and create moods
depending on their needs in the moment. |

Aline added candlelight to begin her class on a
gray, rainy day |
The results were discussed among the group.
- The first painting discussed showed a lot of intensity, solid structure in
chaos with a yellow optimistic view coming through- Next the purple
planet Earth seems to lie in the corner, with molten lava zigzag with a
turquoise arrow pointing to the core of orange/red creativity.

- The final painter said she was a pastel person forcing herself to wear
reds. Her painting had a blue center representing a search for peace.
She also left herself a white border for room to grow. Aline explained that
the added brown could be a need for grounding. |
- The simplicity of a design with oranges and red with yellow show a womb
and the mother connection.
- The muted murky colors are covering an orange burst trying to come out.
The artist feels that she has suppressed her creative self, but Aline said
it is trying to come out. The colors are of nature and palms and
grasses were discussed
- The
Caribbean colors of water show a garden with things growing, moving -
others also saw fireworks, piano keys and birds with a seahorse in the
corner
- A very structured chaos was discussed. The artist said she was
painting sky but now looks like clouds. The pink/magenta show joy and
the painting has a constant movement. When asked what she would like
from this exercise, the artists said a release from structure.

| As Aline explains the difference in the 'after'
paintings, she said that it was like night and day, or rather pain to peace!
They discussed further how to let art fill their lives with some of the
things they may feel they are missing. They talked about colors, what they
represented to each individual, the feelings associated with them.
They then got ready for the next painting.
Aline explained that they were to create what they wanted to feel by
picking out the colors, shapes, forms, movements that represented the
feelings they were about to make. They talked about being in control of
their feelings and using color to help generate, soothe, nurture feelings
and thought behaviors and patterns of stress.
The artists were told they could pick out as many colors or as little
colors as they wanted and that now they were going to create what they
wanted to feel in their life. Aline explained that it was great watching
them get really into it, and the way they dissected the way they felt and
put it in front of them to see. Aline commended all of them on their
bravery and spirit of adventure in wanting to heal their lives and hearts.
When the paintings were placed side by side for discussion, each one was
so much clearer, smoother, most of them had more peace and flow to the color
schemes. Some were much brighter, others were toned down. Two women in
particular had a tremendous experience. One woman had used red, green,
yellow and purple and had huge crazy shapes for her first one, she called it
chaos, and the next one she did was all baby pinks and blues and yellows
moving together in one direction diagonally, so different! The other
woman was a math teacher who had trouble letting her self come out of rigid
structure. Her first painting was the one with small shapes perfectly spaced
apart, the colors were bright but the shapes were stagnant. In her next
painting she brought in a great burst of earthy greens in fun patterns that
were organized yet organic at the same time and she had three red lines
coming out of the green from the bottom of the canvas, it looked like a
tree, but for her it was really a breakthrough. she had figured out how to
embrace her structure and still let things flow naturally. very incredible!
All had a great time !
Aline explained that the women involved made it easy for her first
workshop and they all asked when the next one will be. I will keep you all
posted so you can participate as well. |
