November 22 from 10am-4pm, Maryann Meken Silvestri '76 is having a studio sale this weekend and next,    20% - 50% off gallery prices, as well as inventory reduction with some items below cost, small holiday items and of course, the higher end art pieces.  Maryann is a glass artist and can be reached at mrms1@comcast.net for details. Items include: jewelry, tableware, accessories and 2-D artwork............architectural commissions are always welcomed.    Artwork will be available through Thanksgiving, by appointment on weekdays.

Tuesday, November 17th, from 5 to 7 pm an opening reception for An exhibition of faculty works from the art department of Western Connecticut State University at the Higgins Hall Gallery in Danbury, CT. Twenty-eight faculty members will show their own work in their course disciplines: painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, photography, sculpture, illustration, and graphic design. Click here to see the professors at the opening reception.

The art faculty of WCSU is a group of strong, highly accomplished professional artists, some who have dedicated their time at this university for over 30 years.  Their experiences are deeply diverse and significant.  Both the undergraduate art program and the master of fine arts program will be represented.  

This exhibition encourages a conversation on many levels between the students, the faculty, and the outside community.  It is an occasion to share, discuss, and view the works that inspire the instruction.   
The exhibition will continue through December 10th.

Friday, October 9 Maryann Meken-Silvestri '76 presents Glass Act VI at The White Silo Farm & Winery, Rte. 37E in Sherman, CT.  The show opens on Fri. Oct.9 and runs weekends thru Sun. Oct. 25.  Gallery hours are Fri, Sat. and Sun. 11:00 am- 5:30 pm.  An artist's reception will take place on Sat. Oct. 10 from 1:00pm- 4:00pm.  For further information contact mrms1@comcast.net

Richter Annual Juried Art Show  3 - 7 pm,  100 Aunt Hack Road, Danbury.  Best in Show award is $400, with almost $2000 in cash prizes.   Show dates 9/26 & 9/27 and 10/3 & 10/4, Reception with awards 9/26 at 3 pm

Ival Stratford Kovner MFA '02 participated in the exhibition entitled "Politics of Shoes" held in Boston, Massachusetts at Mobius Gallery on 275 Harrison Avenue.   She was represented by an assemblage concerning her "voting shoes" and various elements. This box assemblage had also been on display at the South Shore Art Center in Scituate, MA. at the exhibition "Fitting" a few years ago. She donated her assemblage to the Mobius resident artists' fund raiser - they are going to exhibit in Bejing, China in Fall, 2009.

David Boyajian, part time drawing instructor at WCSU, has an exhibition of outdoor sculpture and is guest lecturer at Longwood University’s Center for the Visual Arts in Farmville, VA. His outdoor exhibit will run from
March 18, 2009 – March 2010.
