Joan writes, "The University, [Nanyang Technological University] has just sent me to a fresco workshop here in Singapore while the school had a week vacation, this week. The Asian Civilization Museum has brought this Italian fresco painter over from Italy to relate to the exhibition now on view here from the Vatican. So now I've made my first fresco."

"The drawing classes are going very well. The Dean is very supportive and lets me hire the model for the basic drawing classes. I give them a lot of homework because they're only going to improve with practice. Since we are having this break I'm giving them a larger project to do. They must do a drawing, being a self portrait yet not using their head in the traditional way. They must use a or several body parts as the launching off point of their concept and composition, so I'm anxious to see what they do."

Joan is taking tea appreciation and philosophy lessons. She says, "I'm in Buddhist country now so I must learn about tea!"

Joan added, "Notice the small pot and cups. He says the tea is a metaphor of a woman's life...it's fun."
