Press Release
February 22, 2005
Margaret Grimes, M.F.A. Coordinator
The M.F.A. program at Western Connecticut State
University is pleased to announce that Mrs. Ruth Henderson has accepted an
invitation to join the M.F.A. Advisory Board.
Mrs. Henderson, with her husband, Skitch, has been an
active force in artistic and community affairs both in the region and
nationally. Among her many accomplishments, she was a founding member of the
New Milford Commission on the Arts. She was instrumental in establishing the
New York Pops in 1983 and serves as its president. She has served as
Director of the Litchfield Hills Visitors Bureau since its founding, as
co-chair of the New Milford Hospital Foundation.
Developing the Hunt Hill Farm and its relationship to
environmental concern, the Smithsonian, and Western Connecticut State
University, she has brought a valuable environmental and artistic heritage
into the public domain. Since the inception of the M.F.A. program at
Western, she has actively supported it, giving annual exhibitions to faculty
and students at the Silo Gallery.
Ruth Henderson’s qualities of leadership and support for the arts make
her a valuable addition to the advisory board, and we are pleased to welcome
her.
