| Karen Bonanno '93 was a Vermont Studio Center artist-in-residence in 1993. She won first prize at the Regional Hospice of Danbury juried art show in 2001, the WCSU President's Purchase Award in 1993, the Alberetti Memorial Award in 1993,the Ethel Appel Purchase Award in 1991 and 1992and received the Cecelia W. Brown Memorial grant in 1993. | |
| Nancy White Cassidy '96 regionally exhibits landscape scenes primarily of North Maine and Canada. She teaches soft pastels, drawing and perspective at Washington Art Association, Brookfield Craft Center and Fletcher Farm School for the Arts in Ludlow, Vermont. Nancy illustrated "Doll of Lilac Valley" by Cola Cheney, published by Green Mansion Press/March 200. She has also had work published by Barbour Books, Harcourt Brace and Scott-Fornsman. | |

Elisa Deland '96 says "My paintings reflect my love for nature. The abundance of colors, shapes and drama are my inspirations." She won first prize in the 1993 HCC Student art exhibition. She has published two essays in the HCC Literary Magazine, and has exhibited her art at the Danbury Library and Polka Dot in Bridgeport. | |
| Marsha Doran '96 is an adjunct professor of art at Tunxis College . She has shown locally and in New York since graduating with an MFA of painting from Boston University. She did her residency from Vermont Studio Center. Marsha was a cum laude graduate from WCSU. | |
| Donna Eaton (DeCesare) '81 began taking art lessons with a renowned watercolorist, George Shaw in Carmel, NY. She continued her interest in this medium at college in New Paltz, NY but received art degree from WCSU in graphic design. Donna continues to show her work in her home community of New Salem, MA. She also has a line of note cards that she designed based on her watercolors. She has received great recognition from the New Salem community as well as the Amherst College with sales and commissioned pieces. She is now showing her work in the Pioneer Valley's wide range of specialty shops. She has had several pieces published in the artist magazine at Amherst College. | |
| Melissa Gerstbrein (Hatch) '00 is currently working with Bridgewater artist Elizabeth McDonald and teaching children's ceramics at the Washington Art Association. In addition, she is a freelance muralist and decorative painter. She is presenting her children's book to various publishers. Melissa has won the Tassy Walden Awards for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators- 1st Runner up in 2002; Antonio Alberetti Award for Excellence in Painting in 2000 and Achievement in Illustration: WCSU 2000. | |
| Muriel Glass, 75 took art courses at WCSU before there was an art degree. She also studied with Diane Stein of Brookfield and worked with One of a Kind Studio in Danbury. She has received Honorable Mention at the Richter Association for the Arts for her sculpture. Her sculpture, "Metamorphis" is on permanent display there. Muriel has had a one-person show at People's Bank in Southbury, Hancock Hall in Danbury and participated in Barden's Annual Art Auction. She was a member of the Bethel Art League and the Belle Levine Art Center, participating in their annual show. | |
| Mat Gonzales '86 is currently working as a new product designer and previously as a toy designer. He has conducted workshops and was a 1992 master teaching artist for the CT Commission on the Arts. He has shown his work at the Gonzales Family Show, Philippine Consulate in NYC, at the Alan Stone Gallery in NYC and at the John Slade Ely House, reviewed in NYC. | |
| Dino Ianiello '96 majored in graphic design and a minor in marketing. He currently speaks at local events on design and technology issues and is a member of AIGA, TIMA, TAG and AIMA. His work has won awards from the Web Marketing Association and from Forbes.com Magazine. He has written articles for the AIGA Journal and HOW Magazine and has had other mentions in XML Journal and Post Magazine for video/multimedia work. Dino's client experience includes UPS, Pfizer, MCI WorldCom, WebMD, Hewlett Packard, Bass Hotels and Resorts, CheckFree, BellSouth and Coca-Cola as well as many more. | |
| John Kane '76 has published fashion, architectural, food, and nature photography for many leading magazines and organizations including Cosmopolitan, Better Homes and Gardens, Bon Appetit, House & Garden, Natural History Magazine, The World Wildlife Fund and many more. At his studio, Silver Sun Studio, he has also produced advertising for many Fortune 500 companies and some of the largest catalog companies. He travels extensively over seas and holds, in fact, dual U.S. - European Union citizenship. "Twisted Yoga", a book done in collaboration with Pilobolus Dance Theater was released in March 2002 by Sea Star Press. Another book is in the works this spring. He is a goat farmer in Northville, CT. | |
| Wayne Kocot '92 continues to paint. He is a muralist and is now concentrating in his studio in Danbury, CT with canvas and sculptures. | |
| ShawnaLee Waterbury Kwashnak '96 currently concentrates on family, such as infant and children portraits and handmade birth keepsakes. Her work has become more relaxed and illustrative as opposed to direct observation/realism. She teaches private classes for youth in her studio. She has received 2nd place at the Draft Horse Classics in California last fall and at Richter Arts Association in Danbury. Another piece receive Honorable Mention at the Richter Spring Members Show. She won the cover design at the WCSU Art Forum in 2002 and was on the front cover of Taproot Journal. | |
| Alain Picard '97 is a fine artist and portrait painter living in Bethel. He was the recipient of the Kent Art Association's Best in Show Award in 1999 and 2000 at their annual President's Show. After graduation from WCSU he furthered his training at the Art Student's League in NYC. Alain is represented by the Gregory James Gallery in New Milford, CT. | Tracey Pilch '93 is a painter and sculptor driven by expressive, raw emotion and figurative discipline. She has traveled extensively, studying the masters along with the light of diverse places. She has studied in France and Italy and most recently attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. | |
| Kimberly Smith '02 is a freelance illustrator and is teaching art classes at Paint, Draw and More in Redding, as well as Escape to the Arts in Danbury. She won the Ethel Appel Purchase Award in 2000, 2001 and 2002; was published in Prisma in 2001 and 2002 and has shown her work in the Jane Goodall Show at WCSU in 2001 and 2002. | |
| Ival Stratford-Kovner MFA '02 was the first graduate of the MFA program at WestConn. She was 1st place at the Duxbury Art Museum Complex; featured in an article in the Pi Lambda Theta, National Honors Society Newsletter, at the American for the Arts Annual Conference , Nashville, TN Solo Exhibition; in the Society of Illustrators 100th Anniversary Exhibition; in various collections; is part of the SCSU art exhibition 2002 and has had 25 years of teaching, 10 years as a DeCordova Museum instructor. | |
