Rahel Kopta '03
is an artist and educator living in New York. Her oversized gestural
works have been
likened to batik work, graffiti, and Abstract Expressionism. Her work
often references the figure, plant forms, natural landscapes, and urban

arrangements which suggest multiple scenes/objects simultaneously. She
also works realistically, and is inspired by the presence of the natural
world within cities. She exhibits frequently in both group and solo
exhibitions in CT and New York. Rachel additionally receives commissions
for murals and portraits.
To relax on the weekends Rachel runs in the woods.
Rachel works at the United Nations International School in the science

They
are very involved with reforestation. Russia, overall, has been replanting
for nearly 100 years. You can drive down a country road and see fields of
larch, oak, birch, maple, and fir that is 60, 70, 80 years old. All planted
in symmetrical rows - which tells you that someone took out and someone
replaced. This is part of State sponsored replanting. We do not remove a
tree without planting another.
