Dr. Harold B. Schramm’s educational path began at College of the Holy Cross in Worchester, MA where the Long Island native was the recipient of a presidential scholarship and a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu and Eta Sigma Phi national honor societies.  After graduating in 1965, Schramm attended the University of Delaware, where he worked as a graduate assistant in the English department while pursuing his Master of Arts in English, which was awarded in 1967.  Two years later, the University of Delaware conferred a doctorate in English Literature upon Schramm. 

Schramm attended the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he received the American Jurisprudence Award for Excellence in Legislative Process, and earned second place honors in the 1973 Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition in Copyright Law and graduated with honors in 1973 with a Juris Doctor degree.

He is admitted to practice law before the state and federal courts in Connecticut and the U.S. Supreme Court, and is a member of the American Bar Association, Connecticut Bar Association and Litchfield County Bar Association.  Schramm has served as a consultant to the Reporter of Judicial Decisions for the Supreme Court of Connecticut, and is a contributor to numerous legal publications, including the “ Connecticut Practice Book,” “Arbitration,” and the “Stylesheet for Opinions of the Connecticut Courts,” while an active member of several political science, literary, and law organizations.

Schramm’s career as an educator began in the late 1960s as an assistant professor of English at Central Connecticut State University and for much of the ‘70s he was a lecturer in law at the University of Connecticut School of Law.

A member of the faculty at Western Connecticut State University since 1969 as an instructor of graduate and undergraduate courses in English literature, criticism, and bibliography; writing; constitutional law; law and literature; legal writing; criminal law, and mock trial.  Having served as a chairperson for the Division of Justice and Law Administration; coordinator of paralegal studies; and as advisor to pre-law students, the Student Government Association and the SGA Legal Clinic, and the Justice and Law Club; in 2007 Schramm retired as professor and was awarded emeritus status.
