University Senate Committee on General Education

The bylaws of the Committee on General Education were approved in March 2005 by University Senate.  The Committee's objective states:

To ensure that the general education curriculum is consistent with the mission of Western Connecticut State University, the State of Connecticut’s general education requirements, and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accreditation standards.

Actions Taken:

  • The First Year Experience Program was implemented Fall 2007.

  • The new course approval form for all new courses proposed to be in the general education curriculum was approved by the Senate at the December 2005 meeting.

  • The committee developed the elements of the FYE program on the general education wiki.  All are welcome to visit and make comments.

  • The committee is preparing learning outcomes and objectives for the general education curriculum.
