What's New in the History Department?

Dr. Eric Roman (1926-2007)The history department was sad to hear of the passing of beloved Professor Emeritus of History Eric Roman in California in the Spring of 2007.  Dr. Roman, who taught in this department for over four decades, was the well known expert on Central European HIstory.  A veritable renaissance man, Dr. Roman's publications included historical monographs on twentieth century Hungary (Hungary and the Victor Powers, 1945-1950), reference works (Austria-Hungary and the Successor States), novels (After the Trial, The Year of the Lion), one of which was turned into a motion picture, and admired philosophical essays ("Kant and the Philosophy of Hope").  He will certainly be missed.
