Western Connecticut State University is pleased to announce, contingent upon available funding, the availability of a full time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Fall 2010 in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences.

A core of science courses provides a solid foundation in biology while electives allow students to pursue their special interests. In addition, all biology majors do independent research under the supervision of a faculty mentor during their senior year. We offer a Professional Option to prepare students planning to move on to graduate or professional school, a Bioscience Option for students not planning to continue further biology education, but who still wish to have a general biology background, and an Ecology Option to prepare students for graduate school and/or careers in ecology and environmental science. Qualifications: The department seeks a biologist with environmental health or environmental toxicology specialization. Training in epidemiology, biostatistics or modeling is desirable. The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D., be committed to excellence in teaching and will be expected to establish a research program and capable of supervising undergraduate and/or graduate (MA) research projects. Responsibilities will include development of an undergraduate or graduate course in their area of expertise, and assisting with teaching introductory biology courses. Candidates with academic leadership potential and interest in interdisciplinary collaboration to spearhead new directions for departmental expansion and programmatic improvement are preferred.
