NOVEMBER EVENTS

Nov. 17 - Dec. 10 FACULTY EXHIBITION:  Works by faculty in WestConn's art department will be on display from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, beginning Tuesday, Nov. 17, through Thursday, Dec. 10, in The Higgins Gallery in Higgins Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Nov. 20 - 21 THEATRE PRODUCTION - "CITY OF ANGELS":  The WestConn theatre arts department will present "City of Angels" in the Berkshire Theatre in Berkshire Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20; and Saturday, Nov. 21. Tickets will be $18 for adults and $13 for seniors, students and children on Nov.20; and $20 for adults and $15 for seniors, students and children on Nov. 21. Nov. 24 CHOIR CONCERT:  The WCSU Concert Choir and the WCSU Chamber Singers will perform at 8 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The Chamber Singers will concentrate exclusively on music composed and arranged by Americans, including two hymns arranged by Alice Parker, Williametta Spencer's "At the Round Earth's Imagined Corners," and two movements of Cecil Effinger's "Four Pastorales for Oboe and Chorus" with WCSU faculty artist Dr. Mark Snyder accompanying the group. The men will perform "Vive L'Amour," with the women singing "O Fondens Virga for women's chorus, piano and violin" composed by the conductor, Kevin Jay Isaacs. The Concert Choir will perform a variety of selections from Praetorius to Grotenhuis. The performance will be free and open to the public; donations to the music department will be accepted. Dec. 1 ART SLIDE LECTURE:  Painter Bill Sullivan will discuss his work at 11 a.m. in Viewing Room 1 of White Hall on the WestConn Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Dec. 3 COFFEEHOUSE:  WestConn will present the Midtown Coffeehouse at 8 p.m. in Alumni Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The coffeehouse will include open mic performers at 8 p.m., followed by the featured act, the WCSU Jazz Band, at 9 p.m. Admission will be free and the public is invited. Dec. 4 MASTER CLASS:  Guitarist and composer John Scofield will work with WestConn student combos in a Master Class setting from 1 to 4 p.m. in Room 127 of White Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Dec. 7 PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE CONCERT:  The WCSU Percussion Ensemble will perform at 8 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Featured compositions will include "Three Brothers" by Michael Colgrass performed by freshmen music students, "Encore in Jazz" by Vic Firth performed by sophomores, several ragtime pieces by George Hamilton Green performed by juniors and a piece for two marimbas will be performed by the senior duo "Invicta." The entire percussion ensemble will perform "Feast" by Bill Douglas, "Antiphon" by F. Michael Combs and "Stained Glass" by David Gillingham. Dec. 9 - Dec. 11 PLAYFEST OF 10-MINUTE PLAYS:  The WestConn theatre arts department will present "Playfest of 10-Minute Plays" directed by students at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 9 and 10, and at 6 and 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, in the Reimold Theatre in Berkshire Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White Street in Danbury. Dec. 13 FAMILY HOLIDAY MUSICAL:  WestConn, in cooperation with LaMar Productions, will present a family theatre production at 2 p.m. in the Berkshire Theatre in Berkshire Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Dec. 13 HOLIDAY JAZZ CONCERT:  The WCSU Holiday Jazz concert will be at 3 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Performing will be award-winning Frankensax, conducted by Andrew Beals; the WCSU Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Dave Scott; and the WCSU Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Jamie Begian. The program will feature traditional big band jazz standards and holiday classics such as "Sleigh Bells" and "Walking in a Winter Wonderland." Dec. 17 FAMILY THANKSGIVING EVENT:  WestConn will host "We Are All Americans" at 11 a.m. at the Ellsworth Avenue Elementary School at 55 Ellsworth Ave. in Danbury. Original songs and dances will be performed by students from WCSU and Ellsworth Avenue Elementary School. The event will be free and the public is invited. For more information, call (203) 837-8412.

VISITOR PARKING ADVISORY: Western Connecticut State University offers several convenient, centrally located parking spaces for visitors to the university’s Midtown and Westside campuses in Danbury. Midtown visitor parking is in the lot next to Old Main and in designated spaces next to University Hall. Parking in the university’s White Street garage is restricted to commuter students, faculty and staff from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; visitors are welcome to park in the garage all other times. Westside visitor parking is on University Boulevard. Visitors who cannot be accommodated in these parking areas are asked to call the University Police Department to make other arrangements.
