DANBURY, CONN. — Popular singer, songwriter and pianist Ben Folds will perform with guest Julia Nunes at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 9, in the Feldman Arena at the William O’Neill Convocation Center on the Western Connecticut State University Westside Campus, Lake Avenue Extension in Danbury.
This concert is open to the public. General admission tickets will be $27; WestConn students with valid I.D. will be admitted for $5. Tickets are available at the Westside Campus Center Box Office, by calling (203) 837-8499 or at www.wcsu.edu/tickets. The doors will open at 7 p.m.
Folds is an American singer-songwriter and the former frontman of the musical group Ben Folds Five. Despite playing in bands in high school, Folds’ musical career didn’t take off until the late ’80s, when he was a bassist for the band, Majosha. In 1994, Folds formed Ben Folds Five, a trio that also included bassist Robert Sledge and drummer Darren Jessee.
Folds started his solo career in 2001 with the release of his first album, “Rockin’ the Suburbs,” on which he played nearly all the instruments, notably guitar, an instrument seldom used during the Ben Folds Five days. A year later, he released “Ben Folds Live,” a collection of live solo recordings. He has released five CDs during his solo career.
This is Folds’ second time touring college campuses. Folds kicked of this year’s college tour on Feb. 29 in West Lafayette, Ind., at Purdue University. He is expected to perform at more than 20 universities around the country.
Nunes, a college student, is a songwriter, guitarist and ukulele player who has risen to notoriety thanks to YouTube.
