WestConn nursing faculty receives proclamation from Gov. Rell
Students take praise for nursing faculty to state level
DANBURY, CONN. — As proud Western Connecticut State University faculty members watched 37 of their graduating students receive their nursing pins, little did they know they were about to be honored as well.
On April 18 at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury, at the annual nursing students Pinning Ceremony, WCSU Provost Dr. Linda Rinker presented the 19-member nursing department faculty with a proclamation from Gov. M. Jodi Rell stating it was “WestConn Nursing Faculty Day.”
“We’re the only nursing faculty, to my knowledge, to be so recognized,” said Dr. Karen Crouse, nursing department chairman.
“It’s wonderful to be recognized for our hard work. This was a total surprise to the faculty and to me,” Crouse said. “Apparently it was our students’ perseverance.”
According to a spokesperson in the governor’s office, several of the graduating class members contacted Rell’s office to ask that the WestConn nursing faculty be recognized for their outstanding dedication to students.
The success of WestConn’s nursing program is no secret and it has long been known as the best in the state — boasting a 100 percent success rate on the NCLEX-RN state nursing exam for three consecutive years.
“We have outstanding faculty here at WestConn,” Crouse said. “I think it’s great that students think that too.”
