Welcome to WestConn.  Here is some important information for the Fall 2008 semester to maintain your F-1 immigration status:

Students also need to be aware of what is required in order to maintain their status.  The most significant of these include:

  • Report to the DSO (Designated School Official) no later than 10 days after the start of EACH new semester.
  • Pursue a full course of study in the fall and spring semesters (12 credits for undergraduate; 9 credits for graduate). THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! If you plan to drop a course, you must see the international student advisor.
  • Make normal progress toward your degree before the expiration of the program completion date listed on your I-20
  • Keep form I-20 valid by following proper procedures for extension of stay
  • Keep form I-20 valid by following proper procedures for change in educational level or program of study
  • Keep form I-20 valid by following proper procedures for transfer of school
  • Abide by the F-1 grace period rules
  • Report a change of address to the DSO within 10 days of the change
  • Not work either on or off-campus unless specifically authorized by Missy Gluckmann

There are several other general requirements that F-1 students are required to follow that are listed on page 2 of your form I-20, contact Missy Gluckmann if you have any questions.

Additional Important Information for All International Students:

  • F-1 students

There are a number of things that we’ll be doing in the first month of school that are important to your remaining in status as an F-1 student here.

First of all, all new, transfer, and continuing international students need to check in with the international student adviser to be registered with SEVIS within 10 days of arriving on campus.  This is extremely important to keep you “in status”.

Bring your passport, visa, I-94 and I-20 with you so that we may make copies and put them in your file.
  • International Services Coordinator

If you haven't made contact with the International Services Coordinator yet, you MUST.  Missy Gluckmann is the International Services Coordinator and she works with all international students to assist with personal, academic, social and financial matters.  She can help you with immigration regulations and university procedures and is the liaison with sponsoring agencies.  She is located in 108 Old Main.  You can reach her by phone at 203-837-3270 or e-mail at Missy Gluckmann.
  • Medical Guidelines

There are some very important medical guidelines that affect international students.  Details are available at: Medical Guidelines for International Students
