SALEM, MA (Pct. 24) —
Junior April Rossetti (Saugus, Mass.) scored as time expired to help the Salem State Lady Vikings to an important Little East Conference victory over the Western Connecticut Colonials, 2-1.
Rossetti, who scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season, helped keep Salem State’s post season hopes alive as it held onto the eighth and final playoff spot with its hard earned win.
Sophomore Eryn Shea (Spencer, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Lady Vikings (7-7, 4-6) when she scored on an assist from Rossetti six minutes into the game to give the home team a 1-0 lead. The Lady Vikings made that goal stand up through the remainder of the period holding Western Connecticut (4-12, 2-8) to just five shots in the period.
Meredith Stuart (Washington, CT) tied the game for the Colonials with an unassisted goal at the 60:25 mark to set up the game-ending dramatics.
Jess McKenna (Rowley, Mass.) recorded five saves to earn the victory. Western Connecticut goalie Heather Stone (Valhalla, NY) made five stops in the loss.
The Colonials close out the season at Westfield State on Friday night, October 30. Face off is slated for 7 p.m.
