Colonials captured 10th win of the season with sweep of St. Joseph (CT)
DANBURY, CT (Sep. 23)— Sophomore Michelle Hearns (Bedford Hills, NY) put on a serving clinic on Wednesday night as she and the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team dominated St. Joseph College (CT), 3-0, at Feldman Arena. The Colonials, now 10-3, prevailed, 25-12, 25-14 and 25-21.
Hearns, who only played in the first two games, registered five service aces and closed out each game she appeared in from the service line. In the opener, she served the final six points and registered three aces. She followed that up with the final seven points and two more aces in the middle contest.
Junior outside hitter Kara Masciangioli (Harwinton, CT) led the Colonials offense with nine kills over the final two games.
Sammie Hathaway (Milford, CT) dished out 22 assists while Kelley Collins (Massapequa, NY) patrolled the defense and collected 13 digs. Katie Hamel (Ronkonkoma, NY) added seven digs for the winners.
For the Blue Jays, now 3-7, Brittany Souza (Newington, CT) tallied nine kills. Catherine Irwin (Barkhamstead, CT) added eight kills for their offense.
Jennifer Braun (Bloomfield, CT) handed out 10 assists while Fransiola Cekolli (Waterbury, CT) picked up seven digs.
WestConn takes to the road for the next nine matches beginning this Saturday when it takes on host Plymouth State University in upstate New Hampshire and the University of Southern Maine in a tri-match.
