Western Connecticut Outduels Trinity Volleyball

HARTFORD, CT (Oct. 14) — Freshman Paxton Thornton (Sharon, Conn.) and senior Becca Stein (Kingston, N.Y.) combined for 28 kills to lead the Western Connecticut Colonials to a 3-1 win over the Trinity College Bantams in women’s volleyball action this evening. Western Connecticut improves to 19-5 on the year, while Trinity falls to 9-6 on the season.
Trinity jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set, but Western Connecticut was able to pick up the first match point after outscoring the Bantams 24-14 to finish the set. Trinity came back strong for the second match point, outscoring the Colonials 25-8 to even the score at 1-1. The Colonials answered with a 25-21 win for the third match point, overcoming a Trinity run to end the third set. Trinity made a valiant attempt at forcing a fifth set, but came up shy, dropping the fourth set 25-23.
After dominating the second set, Trinity lost momentum midway through the third set after the Colonials went on an 18-7 run, which included a 10-0 stretch, to build an insurmountable lead over the Bantams. First-year Danielle Isaman (West Hartford, Conn.) had 16 kills, 9 digs, and 3 service aces to highlight the Trinity stat sheet.
