Greg Poole was named the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach in March of 2006.
In his first season, the Colonials went 8-16 overall and qualified for the Little East Conference Tournament with a 4-3 record.
In 2007, WestConn’s record improved to 19-13, 5-1 in the LEC. Last season, the Colonials won 19 games again (19-9) and advanced to the second round of the Little East Conference Tournament.
He comes into the 2009 campaign, 18 wins short of 200 for his college coaching career. Pool has a 46-38 overall record in three seasons at the WestConn helm (12-7 in the LEC). In nine seasons at WNEC, the Golden Bears went 136-114.
Poole has coached many of his athletes to individual honors and accomplishments within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA). Under Poole’s guidance, twelve players were named to the GNAC All-Conference Teams, one player was named the GNAC Rookie of the Year, one player was named the GNAC Most Valuable Player, and one player was named to the NEWVA senior All-Star Classic.
In the winter of 2008, Poole took WestConn volleyball to Barbados for an International Tournament for eight days. The team had the opportunity to play against the Barbados National Team and two high-level programs from Canada. The players and coaching staff also had the opportunity to visit and experience many different places of the island and meet many fascinating and interesting people.
“Having the opportunity to bring our players to Barbados to compete internationally and be introduced to a new culture, was an amazing experience for us,” stated Poole. “Because the NCAA only allows an International Tour every three years, we fully expect to take another trip like this one in 2011. We are possibly thinking of returning to Barbados, travelling to Italy, or even Ireland. These international trips are a once in a lifetime opportunity for some of our players, and we want to make sure every player that comes through our program, has that opportunity.”
Poole, a native of Fairport, New York, is a 1996 graduate of Springfield College where he was a member of the men’s volleyball team for three seasons. He has also been the Head Boy’s Volleyball Coach at Belchertown High School (MA) and works various camps and clinics throughout New England.
