WestConn falls to Western New England College 1-0 in two OT's

SPRINGFIELD, MA (Oct. 22) — Junior midfielder Shannon Pescatello (Wethersfield, CT) headed in the game-winning goal in the 101st minute, as the Western New England College women’s soccer team stunned visiting Western Connecticut State University 1-0 in double overtime on Thursday (Oct. 22) at Suprenant Field.

The win snapped an 11-game losing streak to WestConn and is the first since 1998.

WestConn (8-9) out shot the Golden Bears 13-5 and didn’t allow a shot on goal until the 76th minute of the match.

Western New England College (8-7-1) was awarded a direct kick two minutes into the second overtime period due to a Colonials yellow card infraction. Senior defender Kristen Culver (Westhampton, MA) took the kick, which setup Pescatello’s winning shot.

WNEC senior goalkeeper Jessica Covino (Bristol, CT) finished with five saves for her sixth shutout of the season.

Sophomore goalie Molly Miller (Middlebury, CT) had two saves for WestConn.
