WestConn swims past Purchase College on Senior Day, 145-117
DANBURY, CT (Jan. 30) — With three seniors each playing a significant part in securing a victory in the final home dual-meet of the season, the Western Connecticut State University women’s swimming team dominated much of the meet to defeat visiting Purchase College 145-117 Saturday afternoon at the O’Neill Center pool.
Swimming in their final home dual-meet for the Colonials were:
Katie Meleg (Danbury, CT) – 1st Place 100 Butterfly (1:07.81), 1st Place 100 Freestyle (58.84), 1st Place 500 Free (5:33.62)
Francesca Testa (Cheshire, CT) – 1st Place 50 Free (26.99), 1st Place 200 IM (2:27.51), 2nd Place 500 Free (5:40.01)
Stephanie Mills (Danbury, CT) – 2nd Place 50 Backstroke (35.37), 2nd Place 100 Back (1:15.42), 2nd Place 50 Fly (32.63)
Also finishing in first place for the Colonials were:
Junior Megan Dyson (Farmington, CT) – 200 Free (2:11.69), 50 Breaststroke (33.98)
Junior Kari Piedescalzo (Cheshire, CT) – 50 Back (33.92), 100 Brest (1:22.52)
Sophomore Jess Jahr (Plainville, CT) – 1000 Free (13:03.50)
WestConn captured first place in both the 200-yard Medley Relay and the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Sophomore diver Nicole Olmstead (Southbury, CT) took first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions.
For Purchase College, Kaitlyn Raitz (East Islip, NY) took first in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:13.91, and Jess Brothers (Putnam Valley, NY) won the 50 Fly in 32.32.
With the win, WestConn’s dual-meet record now stands at 5-3 on the season, while Purchase College falls to 6-3. The Colonials return to action next Saturday, February 6th, when the travel to Westfield State for their final dual meet of the season. Start time is schedule for 1:00pm.
