Meleg takes three firsts, but WestConn falls to Mt. Holyoke, 168.5-120.5

MEET RESULTS

DANBURY, CT (Nov. 21) — Senior Katie Meleg (Danbury, CT) won three events, but the Western Connecticut State University women’s swimming team didn’t have the depth to keep up with the visitors from Mount Holyoke College, falling 168.5 to 120.5 Saturday afternoon at the O’Neill Center pool.

Matching her three-win performance from the previous day, Meleg took first for the Colonials in the 100 Back (1:03.56), 200 Back (2:17.66), and 500 Free (5:48.78).  Also taking first for WestConn were senior Francesca Testa (Cheshire, CT) with an 11:47.29 in the 1000 Free, junior Megan Dyson (Farmington, CT) with a 2:38.29 in the 200 Breast, and sophomore Nicole Olmstead (Southbury, CT) who won the one-meter diving with a score of 146.30.  Dyson also finished in a first-place tie with Mount Holyoke’s Lindsay Schonborn (Orinda, CA), as the two recorded identical times of 1:12.99 in the 100 Breast.

For Mount Holyoke, Lydia Bowers (Scotland, CT) took first in the 100 Free (57.38) and 200 Free (2:07.63), Joan Burton (Grosse Point, MI) won the 100 Fly (1:03.40) and 200 Fly (2:24.22), Nora Cunningham (Bronx, NY) captured the 50 Free (26.60), Sarah Rooney (Orange, CT) won the 200 IM (2:29.29), and Kaitlin Mitchell (Georgetown, TX) took first in the three-meter diving with a score of 152.40.

With the loss, WestConn’s dual-meet record now stands at 2-1 on the season, while Mount Holyoke College is 1-0.  The Colonials next competition will be on Saturday, December 5th, when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for this year’s Little East Conference championship meet.  The morning session is scheduled to begin at 11:00am.
