WestConn women's tennis opens season with convincing
victory over St. Joseph College, 7-2
DANBURY, CT - (Sep. 14) — The WestConn women's tennis team opened the season with a convincing 7-2 victory over St. Joseph College (CT) at Westside Courts Monday afternoon.
The Colonials raced out to a 3-0 advantage after taking the three doubles matches. Maxx Zimmer (Sandy Hook, CT) and Debbie Ferreira (Danbury, CT) captured the #3 doubles match, 8-1 over Alex Vasile and Sylvia Perez.
Junior Lauren Post (Danbury, CT), who along with Jenna Kosiba (Bristol, CT) earlier took the #1 doubles match, 8-2, cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at #1 singles. She defeated Barbara Mach.
Other winners for WestConn include; Brittany Holynack (Old Lyme, CT) over Ali Lienhop, 7-5, 6-1 at #2 singles, Ali Mahony (Bristol, CT) over Gianna Gurga, 6-0, 6-3 at #3 singles and Brittany DiMauro (Torrington, CT) over Kemeshia Cooper, 6-2, 6-4 at the sixth singles match.
Hoynack and Kelly Macey (New Fairfield, CT) earned a win at #2 singles over Mach and Gurga, 8-3.
WestConn travels to New Paltz for a 6 pm match on Wednesday, September 16.
