WESTERN CONNECTICUT FALLS TO UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER, 73-62 IN NCAA SECOND ROUND

 ROCHESTER, NY  – The University of Rochester advances to the “Sweet 16” following its 73-62 victory over Western Connecticut State University men’s basketball in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championships at the Palestra on Saturday night.
  
         The Yellowjackets, 23-3, were led by sophomore forward Seth Hauben (Newton, MA) who scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
  
         Andy Larkin (Cincinnati, OH) and Jeff Joss (Clifton Park, NY) added 14 and 13 points, respectively for Rochester.
  
         Senior guard Casey Bock (Danbury, CT) led the Colonials with 12 points, nine points coming in the second half, and six assists.
  
         Jay Reginatto (Torrington, CT), who had been on a blistering pace, averaging 20 points over the last four games, added 11 points for the Colonials. 
           
Western Connecticut tied the game twice in the second half, the latter on a Reginatto jumper with 5:42 remaining making it, 53-53.
            The Yellowjackets, 1990 Division III National Champions, outscored the Colonials, 20-9 down the stretch including a 12-3 run over the next three minutes.  Their outburst was highlighted with six straight points from Joss.
  
         Western’s Marvin Evans (Stratford, CT), the team’s leading scorer at over 16 points a game, was held to just nine points and did not register a point until 1:48 remaining in the first stanza.
  
         The Colonials, winners of the LEC regular-season and Tournament titles end their second-straight season with a NCAA second-round loss.  A year ago, Western dropped an 82-77 decision to Amherst College in the Round of 32.
