Faculty Biographical Sketches

Aram Aslanian, Department of Education & Educational Psychology

Dr. Aram Aslanian, who is an Assistant Professor and Co-director of the EPY’s Counselor Training Clinic in the Education Department, joined the faculty in Fall semester 1999. He brings to WestConn, extensive experience in school counseling and school psychology in public school programs that includes preschool coordination, student assistance team leader, alternative programs for psychiatric and behavior disorders, (grades 6 through 12), and special and regular education counseling in elementary, middle and high school levels.

Dr. Aslanian held previous positions as a psychiatric social work and drug and alcohol counselor in both psychiatric and residential treatment settings and private practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor. He has published research in the area of school-based family counseling approaches. Dr. Aslanian is also a licensed marriage and family therapist, presenting workshops in how to work with families in the public school setting at the National Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the Connecticut Counseling Association, the Maine Counseling Association Conferences, as well as for public schools and other professional organizations. Dr. Aslanian is currently the President-Elect of CT Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.

Recently, Dr. Aslanian has been involved in creating a course and training model for teachers and counselors to incorporate the Connecticut Curriculum for Developmental Guidance into language arts and reading literacy programs.
