Faculty Biographical Sketches
Michael Gilles, Department of Education & Educational Psychology
Dr. Mike Gilles, Assistant Professor of Education and Educational Psychology, is the CACREP Unit Leader for the Counselor Education programs and coordinates the Community Counseling Program at WestConn. Dr. Gilles received his Ed.D. from The University of South Dakota in 1996, and his M.Ed. from the South Dakota State University in 1982. Dr. Gilles began his career as an Elementary School Counselor in South Dakota, and moved on to become a Middle School Counselor. As a School Counselor, Dr. Gilles presented at Middle Level Education Institutes, served as Chairperson of the Clay County Child Protection Team, and was an active member of various counseling associations. When Dr. Gilles completed his doctoral degree, he began work as a Family Therapist with Children’s Home Society where he worked with children and their families in a residential setting. Dr. Gilles then worked as a Clinical Supervisor in Minnesota where he developed a residential treatment program for children with sexual behavior problems. Dr. Gilles is a School Counselor K-12, a National Certified Counselor, a Connecticut Licensed Professional Counselor, and the 2001-2002 President of the Connecticut Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. Dr. Gilles teaches courses in Counseling Theories, Case Management, Group, Individual, Adlerian, Couples, Marriage and Family and Sexuality Counseling as well as Practicum and Internship Supervision. Dr Gilles along with his colleague Dr. Aslanian, have worked together over the past several years to develop a Counselor Student Training Clinic at WestConn, which provides both counseling services for the University and greater Danbury communities and enhanced training opportunities for Graduate Counselor Education students.
