RN to BS Program in Nursing

Dear Registered Nurse:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the degree-completion program at Western Connecticut State University at Waterbury.  I am sending information that will help you to get started on your studies with us.  WestConn offers courses for the RN-BSN program on both the midtown (Danbury) and Waterbury (Naugatuck Valley Community College) campuses.  You may enroll in courses offered at either location.  Faculty teaching in the program are members of WestConn’s faculty from the Department of Nursing.

Our program builds on nurses’ previous nursing education and respects the knowledge they have developed in their practice experiences.  The two clinical experiences required for the degree (NUR 330, Nursing in the Community and NUR 375, Nursing Practicum) are designed in collaboration with instructors to ensure an enriching experience that will augment each nurse’s current nursing expertise in clinical areas with which she or he may have had little or no experience.  The Human Health Experience (NUR 336) introduces concepts in holistic nursing practice and Pharmacotherapeutics Across the Life Span (NUR 322) expands knowledge in the ever-changing field of pharmacology and diagnostic modalities.  Students must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours in courses offered through WestConn, including 28 semester hours of required NUR labeled courses, in order to receive a degree from the university.

This packet contains the following information:

  • General information concerning the RN-BSN program, which answers frequently asked questions
  • A self-advisement guide, which will help you in selecting initial courses if you wish to register before meeting with an advisor
  • RN-BSN program worksheet, outlining all degree requirements which you may use to record your progress toward the degree, including transfer credit
  • Course descriptions for Nursing courses in the RN-BSN program

Faculty members are available for advisement during the academic year as well as throughout the summer to answer your questions.  Please call for an appointment.
