A trough of low pressure moving across the Northeast will result in a mixture of clouds and sunshine with the chance of a few scattered snow showers and flurries, especially in northern and western areas. Temperatures will remain very chilly with highs in the 20s and 30s. Little change is expected through the weekend, although very windy conditions will occur on Saturday. A storm system will be affecting the region early next week with some rain and snow. Temperatures will be a bit milder. Across the nation, lake effect snow showers and flurries will occur in Michigan and the eastern Ohio Valley, while high pressure brings fair skies and colder than normal temperatures from the Tennessee Valley to the Gulf Coast. A weak area of low pressure crossing the upper Plains will produce periods of snow. A frontal system will be approaching the Northwest with rain in coastal Oregon and Washington. Fair skies and mild readings in the Southwest.
